Getting the Most From Your Ink
Ink is one of your larger consumable costs. A few habits keep waste down and printheads healthy.
- Store it properly: Cool, dry, out of direct sunlight. Check the expiry date before fitting a cartridge you've had on the shelf a while.
- Shake when the manufacturer says to: White and metallic inks in particular settle, and printing with unmixed pigment gives you inconsistent density.
- Don't let the printer sit idle: Run a nozzle check and a short print regularly. Dried ink in the head is the most common cause of expensive service calls.
- Keep a spare set on hand: Running out mid-job costs more in downtime than the ink does in stock.
- Match ink to media: Eco-solvent needs solvent-rated media. Putting it on the wrong stock gives you poor adhesion and colour that shifts as it dries.

What ink does my printer need?
Your printer determines the ink. Eco-solvent machines take eco-solvent, UV machines take UV curable, and so on. Ink is generally not interchangeable between types. If you tell us your printer make and model, we'll confirm the correct ink and cartridge size.
Can I use third-party ink in my printer?
You can, but it often voids the printer warranty and can damage printheads. We supply genuine manufacturer ink so your warranty stays valid and your colour output stays consistent with your existing profiles.
What is the difference between eco-solvent and UV ink?
Eco-solvent ink dries by evaporation and soaks slightly into the media, which suits vinyl, banner and self-adhesive stock. UV ink cures instantly under a UV lamp and sits on the surface, so it prints to rigid and non-porous materials like acrylic, aluminium composite and timber.
Do you ship ink Australia wide?
Yes. Orders over $350 ex GST ship free, and everything else is $15 flat rate Australia wide. We dispatch from Sydney and Melbourne.
How long does wide format ink last?
Most manufacturers give a shelf life of 12 to 24 months from the production date when stored correctly. Check the cartridge or bottle for the expiry, and rotate your stock so the oldest gets used first.
