Latest Generation Print Engine
The XR-640 features two latest generation 8-channel piezo inkjet heads with 180 nozzles per channel. The inline formation allows for smoother gradations and richer density for photographic and high-resolution vector output. Configured in a mirrored pattern through seven colours, chromatic banding is virtually eliminated in bi-directional printing.
High-Speed Production Printing
With print speeds of up to 49 m2/h (528 sq. ft.) per hour for CMYK applications, the XR-640 is Roland’s fastest every printer/cutter. With integrated print/cut capability, the XR-640 expedites the production cycle by allowing for unattended print and contour cut production in one easy, seamless step.
Seamless Print/Cut Workflow
For seamless streamlined production, the XR-640 large-format printer/cutter automatically contour cuts printed graphics. This integrated system saves valuable time and effort by eliminating the need to reload and reposition graphics. The Quadralign four-point optical registration system also allows for cutting laminated graphics by automatically realigning the cutting path while compensating for media skew and distortion. With its included TU-2 take-up system, the XR-640 is capable of performing long, unattended print runs with contour cutting or can also function as a stand-alone vinyl cutter.
Seven or Eight-Color Printing Configuration
The XR-640 offers a choice of seven or eight-colour printing. Choose from the following ink configurations, depending on your needs:
The New ECO-SOL MAX® 2 Ink
The all new, high-definition ECO-SOL MAX® 2 inks are specially designed for the next generation of advanced production devices staring with the SOLJET PRO4 XR-640. Like Roland’s original ECO-SOL MAX™ inks, the new ECO-SOL MAX® 2 inks deliver outstanding image quality and colour on a wide range of coated and uncoated media. ECO-SOL MAX® 2 inks are also nickel-free for a healthier work environment and are virtually odourless, so there’s no need for special air filtration systems. Inks are packaged in convenient 220 ml and 440 ml cartridges and are water, scratch and UV resistant up to three years outdoors* without lamination. Combined with variable droplet technology, Roland ECO-SOL MAX® 2 inks deliver more brilliant colour with superb detail in the highlights and smoother blends and transitions overall.
*Outdoor durability is based on accelerated weather tests. Results may vary depending upon location and application. Dry times vary depending on specific media characteristics. Lamination may be required for some applications or environmental conditions.
New Light Black, Plus Metallic Silver and High-Density White
The PRO4 features new Eco-Sol MAX 2 specialty inks that enhance image quality even at higher speeds, create stunning effects, and add value and sophistication to any graphic.
- Light Black – For better reproduction of gray colour gradients and more natural skin tones.
- Metallic Silver – Can be printed as a spot colour or combined with CMYK to produce over 500 striking metallic and pearlescent colors.
- High-Density White – Allows for greater opacity.
Automated Ink Circulation System
The PRO4 XR-640 comes standard with Roland’s Automated Ink Circulation System to prevent the pigments in metallic silver and white inks from settling. Designed to reduce waste of white and metallic silver ink, the circulation system dramatically lowers running costs while ensuring exceptional image quality throughout the longest production runs.
VersaWorks RIP Software
Developed exclusively for Roland inkjet printers, and printer/cutters, VersaWorks® RIP software takes full advantage of the PRO4’s capabilities. Based on the latest Adobe CPSI 3019 engine, VersaWorks includes advanced error diffusion and 16-bit rendering for exceptional production output and unmatched ease-of-use, and is fully compatible with Windows® 7, Vista and XP. Along with features such as variable data printing, embedded ICC support, ink level adjustment tools and advanced cropping, tiling and nesting options; the newest VersaWorks features include the following:
- Predictive Ink Calculator and Alert: For flawless unattended printing, a predictive ink calculator estimates the amount of ink needed for each job. When there is not sufficient ink to complete a job, the RIP notifies the operator prior to printing.
- Spot Color Replacement Tool: Allows an operator to specify Roland colors directly in VersaWorks without the need to spend a great deal of time re-opening the source file to make changes.
- Built-in PANTONE® Spot Color Library: This new library helps streamline the conversion process from PANTONE® to CMYK colors and ensures accurate PANTONE® colour matching
Advanced Media Handling
A true production printer, the PRO4 XR-640 features an upgraded media feed and take-up system that accommodates rolls of up to 88 pounds (40 kg) for long, unattended printing. Upgraded media flanges and seven pinch rollers secure the heaviest media in place, providing accurate feeding and tracking throughout the longest of production runs. Adjustable print heads enable you to accommodate various media thicknesses.
Integrated Tri-Heater System
The PRO4 XR-640’s integrated tri-heater system dries prints quickly even in high-speed modes for immediate finishing, installation or collection by the take-up system. The system features three components: a pre-heater that improves media receptiveness, a print heater to accelerate ink fastness and brightness, and a dryer to accelerate the drying process and improve productivity, workability and scratch resistance. All can be controlled from either the printer panel or Roland VersaWorks®.
Optional Dryer (DU-640)
The DU-640 Heater/Blower is offered as an option for the XR-640 and offers users several advantages, including the ability to print highly saturated images at full speed while using the take-up rollers. Image transfer and sticking caused by rolling up wet images are eliminated. For increased media feeding accuracy during print/cut operations, the DU-640 also enables users to take full advantage of all the XR-640 pinch rollers. The DU-640 is required for printing with white and metallic inks.
Five Year Extended Warranty
As further proof of their unparalleled reliability, Roland is pleased to offer a 5 year Heads ‘n All Extended Warranty for the SOLJET PRO4 XR-640. The Extended warranty covers all labour and parts except select consumables and customer replacement items such as pinch rollers, cutter protection strips and wipers are not covered under this warranty.
